Most Indian BFSI organisations use 300 seconds (5 minutes) as the practical standard. A 6-digit OTP remains the recommended choice for financial transactions, while 4-digit OTPs suit low-risk use cases. Combine OTPs with rate limiting of 3–5 attempts to maintain strong security.
